By learning from artists and their works, architects can experiment with new materials and unconventional building techniques, develop a sense of creativity, and integrate natural elements into their designs. The result is the creation of unique and inspiring spaces that cater to human needs and reflect current cultural trends.
In the world of
contemporary houses, there is much debate over whether the form should follow function or art. At Studio KHORA, we believe that function best follows form, and that architecture must follow contemporary art. In contrast to modernist architecture, where the form was dedicated to the function of the building, we believe that contemporary architecture can be elevated to a new standard of critical thinking through the integration of form and art.
Contemporary art offers an elemental key to unlocking a new world of contemporary architecture, where architects can influence the world of art and push forward a new level of mindset. For example, the sculptural design of the G House, influenced by the work of British contemporary artist Antony Gormley, follows the idea that the nature of the space a human being inhabits should dictate design.
Contemporary architecture is known for its gravity-defying twisted buildings, often enabled by new technologies. However, even in its most sculptural form, we believe that contemporary architecture can still benefit from following contemporary art.
The Modern Art movement, which spanned from 1880 to 1970, was defined by the exploration of dreams, symbolism, abstraction, and personal iconography in the artwork. If architects could lead a revolution in the contemporary art movement, as Jackson Pollock did with his unique concept of painting without touching brush to canvas, we believe that contemporary architecture would immediately change for the better.
